MarielleK
Hello everyone. I saw this green river stingray bidding for much less than it is worth on an auction site. I will likely not bid on it, but in case I do I wanted to check it’s authenticity. I know these are not really faked, but it would be quite a large purchase so I just wanted to make sure everything was in order with it. Thank you all! Mousehead
The matrix and preparation look very much in line with other stingray fossils I've seen. Like you said, it seems that stingrays are not commonly faked because of all those tiiiiiny tiny little bones in its fins. It's just super hard to do. Pemphix
@oilshale should have a look. IMO it looks ok, as it can be told from these small photos...
MarielleK
I did not end up purchasing this fossil. Thanks, to everyone who answered!
siteseer
I'm looking at this just now. Yeah, it doesn't look like anyone tried to replace what's missing and I like that about it. It's a great association piece with the Knightia.
