New Members BethDickerson Posted May 3, 2023 New Members Share Posted May 3, 2023 Hi all! I'm a fairly new fossil fan and a middle school science teacher. To my excitement, this was left in my classroom by a previous teacher. It looks to be bone and possibly petrified wood? I was hoping someone with more knowledge could help me out. Much thanks!!!! Rockwood
Can you give us a closer look at the texture ? And a sense of how big it is ? I think it's probably bone. I'm not sure how to explain the other texture though. I doubt that that is wood.
daves64
The layered part looks like sandstone, the other half, not sure. Could be bone, could be a rock. The pictures are a bit too small to see any real detail. Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties. debivort
The banded portion looks like banded chert to me.
Rockwood
Sorry, but this doesn't really help make bone seem more likely. I have to say I doubt it now.
