RomanK
View of the site This trip brought me two interesting specimens. First is a piece of the Lepidodendron bark which has back side surface reflects the deeper layer Second is a both side fossil lepidodendron bark (not unitary) wich contains three level of bark decortication (leaf cushion, smoothed lc and Bergeria stage) Roman http://s1143.photobu.../donbassfossil/

Fossildude19
Roman, More Beautiful Specimens!!! Great pictures!!! On photo 3 of "Young Lepidodendron Branches",... Lower left side - the curved imprints - are those leaves? Also - Are those node scars on the Calamites? Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy your wonderful pictures and insights. Hi Tim, thanks for reply, my first impression was Calamites node, but your question set me thinking and now I would say leaves. Look at scope pictures of typical calamites furrows and that area with the same magnifying. Roman http://s1143.photobu.../donbassfossil/
Fossildude19
Yes, it looks much narrower. I think maybe it is leaves. Thanks for replying. RomanK
Thanks Tim. Just to understand better how is look Lepidodendron bark I made some exercise with usually found negative bark shape (imprint) using the plasticine. Point is that imprint usully preserve better then print. First picture is model from imprint, second - real print (different one). Fossildude19
Roman, That is a great idea! I see now,... much more detail, with the plasticine! Very useful, and interesting. And such a simple way to bring out more detail than can be seen on the original! Best regards. Plantguy
More 'real' barks Lepidodendron young branches Lepidophloios Halonia Matured branches Hey Roman, nice specimens. I like the Lepidophloios detail especially, you can see the vascular and parichnos scars---the "so called" three dots. Regards, Chris
