ckmerlin
Found river gravel deposits after heavy rain washed out banks etc nice Equine Tibia , carnivore lower jaw possibly red fox , single tooth which looks modern , incisor of sheep i think but not sure , and flat bone that looks like part of pelvic process maybe Sus but again not certain because its quite worn I think the Tibia is equine because of the angle of the grooves on the distal end thanks in advance Edited December 29, 2012 by ckmerlin "A man who stares at a rock must have a lot on his mind... or nothing at all'
Rob Russell
Hello there ckmerlin. I believe your assessment of the tibia is correct. A curator at the local museum taught me the same thing about the grooves on the distal end of a horse tibia. The jaw bone looks raccoonish to me, and no idea on the tooth. Finding my way through life; one fossil at a time.
ckmerlin
thanks Rob Ive posted the tooth on the NHM identification site they have a forum for modern bones teeth and skulls which will be useful in the future "A man who stares at a rock must have a lot on his mind... or nothing at all'
RichW9090
The jaw is a canid - either a Canis or a fox - looks rather small if the incisor can serve as a scale, so I'd say fox at this point. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
