Gastropod Cross-Section On ? Coral

collector

Recommended Posts

I was looking at what I am assuming is a gastropod cross section when I noticed that the substrate was fungi shaped. It has what appears to be a silt accretion on it. There are some small holes here and there. Can someone help me identify it? I'm assuming a coral but I haven't come across one of this shape in my searches. Can you tell what the replacement mineral be for the gastropod is?

Thank you for any help. I am learning a great deal from this forum. It is such a great asset for all levels of fossil collectors.

Do you mean small holes in the shell material? That may be a boring sponge that attacked the shell prior to fossilization.
