Mammoth Bone? Tool Marks? Bone Tool? Fist Axe?

Bug Squash

Recommended Posts

Found this in Fremont California many years ago. I stood out while digging in the yard so we kept it. I am fairly certain it is a fossil. I am guessing it is from something big. Maybe a mammoth? Anyone recognize it?

But, I notice it has inclusions that look to me like tool marks. Maybe scrape marks or cut marks. Possibly for shaping it into a bone tool like a fist axe. I fits perfectly in my grip.

Thanks

Sorry, but I'm not seeing a fossil or tool here.

No wear marks/obvious signs of working.

No bone texture.

Maybe a hard limestone/dolostone, or some sort of chert.

Duh... Just a rock.

Thanks Y'all

It's always better to keep it, ask, and find out it is nothing, than to throw it back, and find out later that it was something after all. ;)

We all get fooled one time or another.
