Knuckle rock, fossil?

Cristy

Recommended Posts

Found in steep wooded area. Can anyone help me guess? Not seeing anything similar on line. The "knuckle" rock is porous looking. The other looks like a claw is coming out of the rock.

Welcome to :tff: !

I do not see a knuckle or any bone.

It may help to know where it was found-- general location.

Also if You can take pictures from all sides.

Regards,

Tony

Limestone with shell impressions. By the look of the third picture, I'd say you have some brachiopods in there.

Looks like you might have a variety of brachiopods in there. The "claw" in the second pic is a brachiopod shell that has cracked along some of its grooves.

The rounded porous things might be sponges or bryozoan colonies, see if you can take close-ups of the surfaces.

Brachiopods, maybe sponge or bryozoan as say @trisk, and maybe gasteropods.

Fun thanks! Left my rocks at lake house heading back to Monday work. More pic next week. There were several similar rocks in the area.

That big, bulbous ones in the top photo that look like the big "knuckle" reminds of huge productids I've found out west. They look to be internal casts.
