MOGARDE
Hello, I found this fossilized bone while walking down by the river in Missouri. In doing some research it looks like it could be a metatarsal bone. It seems hard to identify what animal the bone could be from. I took several photos but due to size restrictions I am going to post one and then see if I can post the others to my original reply. Do you know what the bone could be from or how old it may be? It is the first fossilized bone I have found so I appreciate any help. Thank You!

abyssunder
Welcome to the Forum! The bone is not a metatarsal, but it's a nice phalanx. excerpt from E. Schmid. 1972. Atlas of Animal Bones. For Prehistorians, Archaeologists and Quaternary Geologists. Elsevier, New York. 3 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Harry Pristis
Compare with the Florida deer toe bone (medial phalanx). Your find is substantially larger; but then, northern deer do grow larger. 3 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
