Isle of Wight Fossils
Turtle

Trionyx sp

These creatures originate from the north side of the Isle of Wight, UK.
It dates back to the Oligocene (40 million years ago). At this time the UK was experiencing sub-tropical conditions and crocodiles and hippos once roamed the river banks of this area. These turtle remains are possibly from the time when they returned to land to lay their eggs on the shorelines of what is now part of the Isle of Wight.
