Redfieldius gracilis, showing fin supports
Early Jurassic Shuttle Meadow Fm.
Piece of a Redfieldius gracilis, showing exposed internal fin supports on one half of the fossil.
These two pieces were finds from the beginning of this year, but found on different days, a few weeks apart.
I believe the fin supports were exposed after the digestive tract of the fish exploded from gases formed during decomposition.
The gas buildup ruptured the side of the fish that was facing up, and that is why only one side shows the fin supports.
