plants are definitely not common in the Solnhofen area and most impressions are rather faint. This slab comes from a slightly older place (Kimmeridgian instead of Tithonian) which seemed to be a little bit nearer to the shore. The Fauna there is quite similar to Solnhofen, but you can find more plant remains. I've spend many, many hours in the Solnhofen quarries but never found a fern but I've been only a couple of times in Painten and found several nice pieces.
