Trunk of a tree encrusted with coal at its base. The tree is either psaronius (tree fern) or medullosa (seed fern).

Location: spoil pile of underground coal mine in central part of the "Mazon Creek Area".

Formation: Francis Creek Shale in the carbondale formation

Age: Aprox. 309 mya
