Nice examples.  I believe the taxon has been elevated from S. texana to Leptosalenia texana due to biserial vs. uniserial ambulacral pores.  In common terms, on a somewhat microscopic level, look to see whether there are 2 rows of tiny pores or just 1 on either side of the 5 sinuous ambulacra ("ambs" are the squiggly rows of bumps that run from top to bottom of the test).

sixgill pete – I appreciate the complement. They’re not easy to prep with all the tubercles and such!

 

Uncle Siphuncle, thanks for the info.  I just noticed recently in William Thompson’s wonderful “Fossil Echinoids of Texas” that the genus had changed, but you know old habits are hard to break!
