This is Mississippian at the devonian line, new albany shale, it appears to be the inside of the fossil, but looks like it could be the partial o your placodern bone

That's an interesting object, but I don't think it could be a Ptyctodontid, the pattern isn't quite the same and they were extinct by the Mississippian, I think I've seen similar patterns on fossil cartilage from fishes, but I am not an expert. As suggested by Fossildude19 it may be best to post it under FossilID
