This strange fossil was recovered from a roadcut on Highway 64 in TN. Not sure what formation it comes from, but it was definitely limestone.

What period is it from? It looks chitinous, but it hard to tell from the photo. It kind of looks like a partial pygidium from a trilobite.

Shuko, it is very hard to ID from your photo. Might be better from farther away and more angles. I agree that it might be part of a trilo, but it could also be part of a larger Mollusc. Just to hard to tell from pic.
