Pearl
Went to explore the creek with my family to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful day. My hubby found a tooth in the creek bed that cuts into Cretaceous clay and I initially thought it was a shark tooth but not like any I had seen before. Also, found something with crosshatched markings and was wondering if it is a fossil or just an erosion pattern on a stone. Thanks for taking a look.(Hands look like fossils)This measures about an inch across
Darktooth
The first item is a sawfish rostral tooth. Very nice find. I don't have a clue what to second item is. 4 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
M Harvey
I agree with the sawfish rostral tooth for #1. For my money, #2 is a pottery shard with some kind of netting imprint on the outer surface. I haven't seen that pattern before.
sixgill pete
As said the tooth is a Cretaceous sawfish rostrum tooth; Ischyrhiza mira. And a very nice one I may add. Great find. The second item does indeed look like a pottery shard to me also. 2 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
NCSTer
Definitely in agreement with sawfish rostral tooth for #1, but not really getting "pottery shard" for #2. Markings might be a bit too symmetrical, but maybe turtle carapace?
Scylla
The second one is man-made. The crosshatched pattern looks like it was made with twisted string. Plaster, cement or pottery.

Plaster, cement or pottery. I definitely see the twisted string pattern. I find spear points occasionally in this creek so the pottery makes sense. I didn't think about the other being pottery but now I see the rope pattern. Thanks for your help!
