thelivingdead531
Hey everyone! I’m trying to understand the difference between D. crandalli and D. elongatus. From what I can find online there seems to be a difference of opinion. Some say they are actually the same species, others say they are two separate species. Is there an official answer? Below is some of the information I found.
piranha
The most recent literature still classifies Dastilbe elongatus as a junior synonym of Dastilbe crandalli: "Dastilbe elongatus from the Crato Formation has been considered a junior synonym of the type species Dastilbe crandalli (Davis and Martill, 1999; Dietze, 2007; Brito and Amaral, 2008)..." If so, then the Dastilbe fish should all be labeled Dastilbe crandalli?

If so, then the Dastilbe fish should all be labeled Dastilbe crandalli? Basically, yes, the senior synonym was described first and so has priority. So the fishy label should be Dastilbe crandalli Jordan 1910. 2 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
