Funk.Missle
Hey Fossil gang, I went out into the hillside forest next to my dorm and found some shells scattered about. It's very possible they're simply snail shells - I'm very novice. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Scylla
Snail shells I think.
Rockwood
Most likely modern. One would need to know the exact type of setting, and the age of the matrix they came from to say otherwise.

Fossildude19
Agree, these are modern snail shells, not fossils. minnbuckeye
Modern gastropods. Now that I know your education is coming through St Olaf, I can recommend a fossil site close to you. Search "Wangs Corner" for the location and descripion of fossils east of Northfield. There are some rock exposures exposing Decorah Shale. It has been visited by many people so the finds are average at best. But it can get your "feet wet". Show us what you find if a visit happens. Funk.Missle
Hey thanks everyone! I think i'll definitely check out Wangs Corner, it'll be a bit tricky since I don't have a car up here but I think I can borrow a bicycle from the school. Find someone with a similar interest and a car. If there's more than 50 other students you'll find at least one who has a passing interest in fossils. 1 Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
