wellwellwell
Hello! i recently found a small, broken mammal molar. The occlusal surface is worn flat partially, this maybe difficult to see from the photos, it seems small to be an older pig, but pig was my first guess. If that is correct I guess it would most likely not be a “fossil”, although it seems to have some qualities consistent with mineralization. Is it conceivably human, about the same size and in better shape than some of mine! Very curious find for me and probably obvious for some members. thanks for your time!

PaleoNoel
I agree, Sus scrofa is my first guess (recent), my next guess would be Peccary if it were fossilized.

That's what I was thinking, but honestly, mammal teeth are not my forte. I'm pleased that I may be learning! 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' wellwellwell
Excellent! Thank you all for looking and confirming. Most of the mammal teeth that I’ve been finding are marine, so it’s pretty interesting to find a land based critter even if it is not so old. What is it that makes us want to complicate things, It’s easy for one mind to wander around a new find and let the imagination stir up. Pigs are cool, history is complicated even in the short term. Thanks for the quick responses, this forum is such a helpful resource and community.
