Becky Benfer
Hi- this is such a large piece and it looks like tree bark or wood , but it’s a rock. Could it be petrified wood or plant root? ( I keep finding small pieces like this as well.) Found in N central Ohio, river. If the location wasn’t known would you think it may be one of those ? Just curious. I guess I’m asking what to look for because I drag tooooo many “ rocks” home, Thanks again for all help .

Top Trilo
I don't think this is petrified wood, it doesn't look like those I've seen. Could you give a more specific location, (mostly because I used to live around there) “If fossils are not "boggling" your mind then you are simply not doing it right” -Ken (digit) "No fossil is garbage, it´s just not completely preserved” -Franz (FranzBernhard) "With hammer in hand, the open horizon of time, and dear friends by my side, what can we not accomplish together?" -Kane (Kane) "We are in a way conquering time, reuniting members of a long lost family" -Quincy (Opabinia Blues) "I loved reading the trip reports, I loved the sharing, I loved the educational aspect, I loved the humor. LabRatKing
I see no fossil. Looks like a flowstone to me.
grandpa
HI Becky, I can see what you are seeing that makes you think "tree bark". It does look like bark. However, I have to agree with @LabRatKing that this is apparently flow stone. How does one know the difference? I'm not sure I can give any specific diagnostic clues (someone else may chime in); it just come with seeing example after example in my case. Good eye though. Keep looking and bringing your specimens/questions to us. We all learn that way.
Becky Benfer
Thanks everyone I appreciate your help. Top Trilo it was found just North of the Mansfield area. Are you familiar with that area? Here’s a couple other pieces that I thought looked like it may have a fossil on it , or something?!?

Top Trilo
Not sure if these are fossils, the last one has a cool spiral shape but the back side and texture doesn't look like a coprolite, keep looking Ohio has some great fossils. 13 hours ago, Becky Benfer said: Top Trilo it was found just North of the Mansfield area.
