New Members ttrose94 Posted March 16, 2021 New Members Share Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) My sister found this and it is shape of snake, but the dots?? Just not sure what it actually might be. It was found in Poplar Bluff Mo. They were digging in the back yard. Edited March 16, 2021 by ttrose94
daves64
Not a snake head, but most likely oolitic limestone. Completely geological. Cool looking though. I would have picked it up & kept it. 2 1 4 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
Top Trilo
It is the shape of a snake head but unfortunately that is not what it is. First of all snake heads, would not fossilize looking like a snake head, chances are a snake fossil would have many little bones and be flatter on a piece of rock (matrix) like the image below, There are probably many triangle shaped rocks but shape is not all you need for something to be a fossil, there is no bone texture either. Good luck you will find a fossil if you keep looking 1 “If fossils are not "boggling" your mind then you are simply not doing it right” -Ken (digit) "No fossil is garbage, it´s just not completely preserved” -Franz (FranzBernhard) "With hammer in hand, the open horizon of time, and dear friends by my side, what can we not accomplish together?" -Kane (Kane) "We are in a way conquering time, reuniting members of a long lost family" -Quincy (Opabinia Blues) "I loved reading the trip reports, I loved the sharing, I loved the educational aspect, I loved the humor. jpc
beautiful oolites. I agree, not a snake head, even though it does have the right shape.
IsaacTheFossilMan
Hi! It's just a rock, as the others have said. The dots can be attributed to geologic reasons, and are called oolites, the stone being called 'oolitic stone'. Note: this can be exceptionally seen in the Cotswolds - which I am very privileged to reside in! (sorry, just had to boast a bit! ) 1 ~ Isaac; www.isaactfm.com "Don't move!
