RescueMJ
Unusual Shark tooth. Inland, Venice, FL. Pleistocene material is common. Heavy serrations both sides. Bulbous protrusion. Shaped like a lower tooth but serrations on both sides. Tooth is 31mm long and 20mm wide. Is this an odd shaped Hemi upper or from a different species. -Regards, Michael
Thomas.Dodson
Looks like a Hemi. The anterior-most upper teeth (A1 and A2) in Hemipristis get straight like this.
RescueMJ
Thanks, I didn’t have a reference of this tooth in my collection. Thought it was an upper Hemi, but the “bulbous protuberance “ threw me off. - Michael
Coco
Hi, Your tooth is normal, in this species (Hemipristis serra) they have different shapes according to their position (which isn't the case for all sharks). Here it is a lower lateral tooth. On the recent species Hemipristis elongatus, these teeth are less serrated on one side. Shellseeker
One of my very first "outstanding" finds from the Peace River when I started over a decade ago. Thanks for bringing back the memory. 2 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

Coco Coco, I think it was very much a part of "hooking" me on this fossil hobby. At the time , it was hard to believe that I could find something so attractive from millions of years ago.
