Xiphactinus
I found this fossil as a youngster in a North Dakota river valley. It measures approx. 4 inches. It appears to be an annelid, or is it a type of plant? Looks like a weathered section of crinoid stem to me....any idea of the formation/geologic age? New Members ligero Posted March 25, 2008 Author New Members Share Posted March 25, 2008 Here is a close up of the internal structure. The river valley was cut by draining Glacial Lake Souris after the most recent ice age (10000 yr?). I know fossils from 75M+ have been found on that river, so I cannot say for sure of the age. I am guessing the rock is sandstone? There are a couple of other imprints in the stone; these look marine to me. They are much smaller and harder to see. Thanks!
