Welsh Wizard
I recently purchased a Xipheroceras dudressieri from the Yorkshire Coast. They are incredibly rare and I’ve only seen a few for sale let alone find one. Here it is next to. Xipheroceras planicosta that my wife found in Charmouth. Dorset one is 50 mm and the Yorkshire one is 40 mm.

Welsh Wizard
We went to Runswick Bay last week. It was a lovely day but very hot, as we are having a resurgence of Summer in September in the U.K. Here’s a view walking down the beach: Here we are on the beach looking back at Runswick Bay: Finds were few and far between but I picked up a couple of nice finds including: A split nodule containing a dactylioceras tenuicostatum. A lovely calcite dactylioceras commune that was at the centre of a septarian nodule: Both ammonites are about 3 inches in diameter. Welsh Wizard
Just back from a week on the Yorkshire Coast. I managed to find quite a few ammonites. Here is an Oxynoticeras sp. from Robin Hoods Bay. Pretty big at 9 inches and currently being prepped. This is a Lytoceras cornucopia from Saltwick Bay. I purchased it from a friend in Whitby. Again, a good size at close to 11 inches.

New Members NaturalSciGuy Posted November 7, 2023 New Members Share Posted November 7, 2023 Gosh I miss living close to the Yorkshire coast! Such a wonderful candy store of fossils (and rocks) that made every visit an event. Always focusing on the rocky beach while mindful of any loud 'spat' sounds nearby as mud/sediment shed off the wet cliffs above. Loved watching busloads of school kids scramble over the beaches getting inspired by paleontology. Whether it was Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, Port Mulgrave, Staithes, Ravenscar, or Kettleness regions, every ramble ended in a rock-filled backpack. And hiking along the Cleveland Way on a sunny day is stunningly beautiful. Thornwick Bay chalk cliffs further south were also amazing.

Welsh Wizard
I’ve not posted for a while as I’ve been busy with work and personal stuff. My wife and I have just walked the Coast to Coast from St Bees in Cumria to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire. We took 14 day, walked 195 miles and climbed two thirds the height of Everest in that time. We finally spent 3 nights in Robin Hoods Bay where we did a spot of fossil collecting but were limited as we had a lot to carry. Certainly a great way to spend two week. I also found a Carboniferous out crop on the way with large numbers of giantoproductus brachiopods. I will go back at some point. Here are a few pieces that I have either found or recently acquired. All from Robin Hoods Bay area. Amaltheus multi block. Caloceras johnstoni multi block. Echioceras rariocostatum multi block Arnioceras multi block I’m working on.

Welsh Wizard
A medium sized pleuroceras hawskerense. Found near Whitby in a very shelly matrix. Preservation is a nice black calcite. Matrix needs a bit more grinding down but my grinder has broken so I’m waiting for a new one.
Welsh Wizard
As a slight aside from ammonites from Yorkshire, here is a Goniatite multi block from Yorkshire. I finished prepping it today. Very dirty and tough on the stylus. Gastrioceras listeri from the upper Carboniferous of Yorkshire. Goniatites are all about 10 mm - 20 mm diameter.
