Mara_Masina
Hey all! My most recent excursion went pretty well. This is one of my favorite finds despite the size of it, but I can't find any good pictures to compare it to. The root is rather large but damage to it complicates IDing when you're as greenhorn as I am haha. Any ideas? Edited December 14, 2021 by Mara_Masina Fixed picture order. Hope this works!

Wish it were possible to narrow it down, but with all the requiem shark species out there, well...you know how it is lol. Thanks so much!

The root is awful thick for Carcharhinus. bthemoose
The serrations are worn but they look too symmetrical (as does the crown) to be a Hemi to me. I have this similar Carcharhinus sp. tooth from the area (I identified it as potentially C. perezii though I may be wrong about that): Edited December 14, 2021 by bthemoose
Mara_Masina
@bthemoose @Plax @sixgill pete Hey guys, thanks for the input! Since we're still kind of trying to figure it out I have an impromptu video to provide, in order to showcase the three-dimensional shape of the tooth. The thickness of the tooth is something that threw me off in my hunt, as did the overall straightness of it with such serrations. siteseer
It's tough to be close to certain with an incomplete tooth with some water wear. I'm leaning against Hemipristis because you don't see jaw positions with erect crowns and serrations like that. There tends to be at least a noticeable curve to the crown or it's straighter, narrower, and unserrated. I think it is a Carcharhinus tooth as it could be an anterior position, teeth of which do have thicker roots.
Shellseeker
Thicker roots. I can not distinguish between Bull/Dusky, but I seemed to recognize the shape in the movie. http://www.elasmo.com/frameMe.html?file=heim/leecreek/lc-carch_large.html&menu=bin/menu_topics-alt.html The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

After bthemoose pointed me towards requiem sharks, I did more looking and guessed bull shark. This picture from Elasmo is what did it for me, but again, I'm so new that I bleed green lol.
