sixgill pete
Well folks all of us in the househave been sitting around a day and a half after testing positive for this corona stuff. We all are fully vaccinated, booster included and are showing none to severely mild symptoms. Myself, I am showing no symptoms at all othe than mild head / body aches. But, we are all ok. Anyways, I had to get out for a bit so I drove the couple of miles to my private little Eocene quarry. Other than the normal assortment of teeth, sawfish verts and rostral teeth I found this heartbreaker of a ric. Other than the broken root it is a gorgeous tooth. It measured 3.10 inches on my caliper. I sifted the dirt all around it hoping to find the broken root piece. But, oh well still a beautiful tooth. Definately beat sitting around! 1 9 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

FossilDAWG
There's definitely worse ways to self-isolate! Hope you and your family all make a speedy and uneventful recovery. That tooth may be a heartbreaker, but it's nicer than any ric I have ever found. Don
minnbuckeye
Nice Tooth. Now you have an excuse to go back today, find the missing piece! Wish the family well. My daughter and I also tested positive and are on the last leg of isolation. we too are fully vaccinated and exhibited only mild symptoms for 2 days. Loss of smell does however continue but is a good thing. Without smell, I eat less!!!!. Would not have wanted to experience the disease without being vaccinated! Look forward to pictures of the missing tooth! Mike
siteseer
Don, I hope you and your family suffer no further symptoms and test negative very soon. I'm glad your case is mild enough for you to move around. I haven't had many chances to collect an Eocene exposure. I collected with the Tampa Bay Fossil Club at a site for echinoids and other invertebrates though one person found a shark tooth - looked like what used to be called Carcharias koerti. Anyway, like the other Don, I hadn't had much luck with Carcharocles of any kind other than partials found in the Sharktooth Hill Bonebed - until about 20 years ago when I was very fortunate to be in Florida and invited to tag along on a phosphate mine hunt just before the mines stopped letting people in. I found a couple of nice small upper teeth and a larger lower with a small chunk out of one cutting edge. I thought I found gold that day. I was happy with the half a camel tooth and the antelope horn tine as well - almost unheard of kinds of specimens in California. I'm still happy with the STH partials. At least I found them myself. Would be nice to see you again, maybe get in a hunt. I do have quite a few completes ones from other locations, including one that is 3 15/16". Just shy of that magic 4" mark for ric's.
