jnicholes
Hi everyone, I have not been on for a while. I’m in the middle of cleaning up my house, going through fossils, and a lot of stuff. Today, I found an old fossil while cleaning my room. However, I forgot what you guys said it was. I can’t find my original post either. So, I am posting again, with the hope that you guys can help me remember exactly what it is. Here are the details: My brother and I found it by a small waterfall in the snake river canyon near Twin Falls Idaho over a year ago. It appears to have a lot of petrified wood as well as what appears to be a root system inside it. I am attaching pictures. I remember one guy saying it was something that was like a sped up version of a fossil caused by a waterfall, but I can’t remember exactly. Can someone help me re-identify this so I can properly label it? Pictures are attached. Jared

jnicholes
Thank you so much. I couldn’t find the post myself, but at least I have it now. Thanks so much for finding it for me. According to that post, it looks like Phytohermal Travertine. Thanks for helping out! Jared
abyssunder
I would call it tufa. I think he is suggesting a different name for travertine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufa 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
