Really weird Florida bone What is this thing?

Hi everyone!

I have no idea what this is. I looked up various scapulas and hip bones from various things (mostly reptiles) and could not find a match. It gets weirder though, while this one is from North Florida I have another almost identical one from the Moroccan Kem Kem! This piece measures 7.5 cm/2.95 inches long. The "fan" is 5.2 cm/ 2.05 inches wide. The base is 2.6 x 2 cm/ 1.02 x .79 inches. I'll try and get some pics of the Moroccan one but it broke and I have to fix it.

What do ya'll think?

It's a turtle bone. Perhaps a humerus, but I'm not sure about that.

Turtle would definitely make sense, I'm just having a hard time seeing it as a humerus with the wide flat area. Maybe a specific type of turtle?

It appears to be a turtle coracoid.

You must have missed the label on Harry's example. :)

I assure you I saw that.

The question I have is was that example used because this piece is from a snapper,

or did the diagram to illustrate his point just happen to be showing a snapper?

Just eyeballing them, your find is probably not Chelydra.  I was trying to identify the bone, not the species.

That's what I figured, just wanted to make sure.

Thanks man!
