New Members Rafaelmarina Posted May 10, 2022 New Members Share Posted May 10, 2022 Hello everyone I found this fossil (i think) on the edge of a canal in south Florida. It looks like a tooth to me as it has 2 points that I think are roots. Please let me know if you have any ideas thanks!
Harry Pristis
Sorry, not a tooth or bone. Looks to me like a cobble of limestone. 1 2 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
Paleorunner
If I also see a small limestone. But with the zoom, in photo 1 and 2 you can see a small fragment of cylindrical appearance, which could be something. I can only think of a fragment of some kind of scaphopod, like dentalium, perhaps. Edited May 10, 2022 by Paleorunner 1 1
digit
Agreed. Not the correct enameled texture that is found on a tooth. Mother Nature makes some pretty interesting fakers just to make us stoop down and pick up the curious items. Welcome to the forum! Florida is a great place to hunt for a nice diversity of fossils. Have a look around on the forum and you'll see lots of ideas for where to hunt for fossils in this state. Cheers. -Ken 1 1
