I found this today (05/11/22) on Pawleys Island, SC right about high tide, around 5pm. I'm very novice on identification, even though I've been fascinated with finding teeth since I was little.

It's a vertebra, maybe shark, someone more knowledgeable will hopefully give you better ID.

Wouldn't that be a drum 'beat'? :P

Definitely a fish vert--likely too beat-up to positively identify to species (or even family). At around 2.5 cm (1") it would have been from a larger fish for sure. Large drum, snook, tarpon, or large jack.

Tarpon is another possibility
