favositefinder
I’m not sure if this is fossilized or not, but I was hoping I might be able to find more info on it here!
val horn
It is a vertebra from a juvenile animal. I would do a burn test to see if it is recent bone or fossil.

The presence of collagen in the bone gives off a foul order similar to that of burning hair when flame is applied. This suggests the bone is modern as opposed to fossilized. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
val horn
specifically I use the burner on my stove and hold the bone into the flame briefly and see if it catches fire, scorches or smells bad. A true fossil will not be damaged, while a fresh bone is obvious, some subfossilized ice age bones can be slighly scorched and have a minimal oder. some people use a red hot needle. Enamel on teeth are not testable in this way because enamel has so little organic matrix to start with. Please be aware that some fossil fixatives burn easily.
