New Members Anh Thái Posted June 5, 2022 New Members Share Posted June 5, 2022 (edited) Hi! I am a young collector from Vietnam. I bought this ammonite at Van Phuc antique market (Ha district, Hanoi). The seller told me it was found in the mountains of northern Vietnam. He says it is an opalized ammonite and has been processed. As a young collector, I don't know if it's an ammonite. If so, what kind of ammonite is it? How old is it? All your comments are highly appreciated. Thanks for your attention! (As a Vietnamese, I'm not very good at English, if there are any spelling mistakes in the article that make it difficult for you to understand, please ignore!) Tidgy's Dad
It is real and it is an ammonite Looks similar to ones I have seen from the Cretaceous of Madagascar, but I don't know the geology of Vietnam at all, I'm afraid. Hello, and a very warm welcome to TFF from Morocco. 1 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

Tidgy's Dad
I don't think this is opalized, just some of the shell showing iridescent nacre. 1 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
New Members Anh Thái Posted June 5, 2022 Author New Members Share Posted June 5, 2022 1 giờ trước, bố của Tidgy nói: Tôi không nghĩ cái này được làm bằng đá mắt, chỉ là một số vỏ có xà cừ óng ánh.
Ludwigia
I agree that this certainly is an ammonite, but I am not aware of any ammonites originating from North Vietnam and can find absolutely no information about this in my extensive literature or on the internet, so I am wondering if it might come from another country like Madagascar. 2 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. I guess it's an ammonite cleoniceras from the Cretaceous of Madagascar.
