New Members Blakeb Posted June 10, 2022 New Members Share Posted June 10, 2022 Hi all! I found a fossilized bone on the beach in South Carolina. I tried to buy a book to see if I could narrow down anything about a type of animal it might come from, but got nothing from the first book. Any suggestions or identifiers you can see? Thanks! Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Not sure there is enough there to identify it further than chunk - o - saurus - Unidentifiable chunk of bone. Maybe a piece of whale rib? 1 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Harry Pristis
Welcome to the Forum. Books are good -- they will allow you to expand your knowledge base quickly. Bone scraps like this are hopeless -- all significant diagnostic features are gone. Keep hunting! 1 3 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

I think it has the odds, given the place it was found, and preservation potential of them. The texture may not clinch it, but it does fit. 1
