New Members dclucker Posted June 12, 2022 Author New Members Share Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Thank you. What mineral would fossilized bone have or easy way for amateur to tell? Edited June 12, 2022 by dclucker Added question.

In fossilized bone the mineral content is less relevant than the shape and texture. One can study the bones left from a recent meal and learn basically what to look for.
Fin Lover
@dclucker, bone has a sponge-like texture in the center (although it may be on the outside if you find a broken piece). Search for bone on here and you will find a lot of posts that can help you learn what to look for. Here was my first one: Here are also a couple pics of one I found a couple of days ago: 1 Fin Lover

Keep looking and before you know it, you'll have too much bone that you've got no clue what to do with and no clue what it's from! 1 Fossils? I dig it. Rockwood
This one could have fragments of fossils in it. Like the tiny bits in some beach sands. Bone typically looks a bit less mineral like. The microscopic voids in the bone being filled rather than being replaced by larger crystals.
