Interesting Mammal Teeth

Hello everyone,

I found some mammal teeth on a recent trip to the Peace River. Help in identifying would be appreciated!

Tooth #1

The first tooth I believe could be from a peccary; however, I know that peccary teeth are similar to wild boar teeth. Are there any indicators that would allow me to tell the difference?

Tooth #2

I do not know the species this tooth comes from. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Fossil Forum...  Interesting Teeth !!!! GREAT Photos....  For a new member , you are moving fast..  Sorry for delay ,  I am on vacation in Vermont.  It is raining today...

I have hunted the Peace River for 15 years and I should ????  be able to Identify these...  The fact that I can not means that they are unusual....

The 2nd is an enamel cap... My 1st thought was really small Mastodon,,  2nd was Dugong...

On the 1st,  I have always said "Peccary",  usually @Harry Pristis corrects (correctly) to wild boar.. You can get an Idea of differences by reading old posts on the topic...

Insert this into a google search "shellseeker peccary site:www.thefossilforum.com"  with or without the shellseeker...

Another good resource is the @digit University of Florida Fossil Identification service. https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/vertpaleo/amateur-collector/fossil-id/.

Good Hunting in the "River of Peace"  or more correctly the "River of Peas" as the native Americans named it...

Thank you for the assistance @Shellseeker! For the short time I have been on the forum, I have learned so much. Always happy when my knowledge of fossils (especially mammal fossils) increases. Can't wait to continue learning more!

For the record, there is no "wild boar" in our North American fossil record.  "Wild boars" are European.  There are plenty of feral domestic pigs in the Peace River Valley.
