Moscow fm wood?

found in Erie co New York. Are these a fossil or an erratic coal lump? It is very light in weight and has a wood texture

I’m not seeing any fossils on this item. Maybe a small part of a brachiopod need more lighting

I'm not real sure it matches the photos, but this sounds like lignite. Will it burn ?

Photo #10 has two coiled 'gastropods' (?) attached on top and bottom but they look like they are coated with fine sand.  Some insect larvae(?) that live in fresh water do make such 'shells' and if the photo includes fingers holding the specimen, then they are the right size.  Perhaps the specimen was submerged in fresh water sometime. It may be recent wood that was totally waterlogged and then dried out and cracked.

Thank you all for your responses. The only reason I was questing this rock and thinking fossil wood was the visible grains and the way it sounds when you touch it (so much like coal). But i suppose it's just a cool look at some rock layers.

I would say random bit of coal.
