I am thinking this is a weird shaped rock, however the top part is throwing me off with the pattern. Hopefully I am wrong?

I have a few questions do you know where it came from and can you take clearer photos? From what I see it fours look like a partial elephant tooth but not knowing where it’s from it would be hard to tell the species.

Daniel,

Found in a gravel pit discard pile where Pleistocene and Pliocene material is being pulled up, Northeast Nebraska. Had a geology tour day previously and a guy had found a mammoth ejected molar- uploaded the picture of his tooth!

Tidgy’s Dad, are you referencing the first 3 pictures? If so thanks!

I am.

But wait for the specialists on mammal teeth to chime in to be certain.

This view makes this look geologic rather than fossil to me, I think what you're seeing as the alternating plates of enamel, dentine and cementum of mammoth teeth are instead the result of differential weathering of the layers of a sedimentary rock.

There were a few spots on it that had me thinking it was more geological than biological. I was just hoping someone would’ve told me different! Thanks CDiggs!

I can absolutely see what made you think mammoth tooth as well though, in some places the resemblance is almost uncanny. I definitely would have picked it up for a closer look and I sometimes do love keeping those more convincing pseudo-fossils for giggles. Keep at it, I'm sure you'll find one eventually! happy to help and good luck hunting!
