That is a beautiful specimen of a metamorphic rock type called gneiss.  Gneiss is a shale (clay stone) which has been compacted and heated to where dark and light minerals form in alternating layers (due to density), then deformed. The deformation is clearly shown as the “zig zags”. A small fracture which offsets the crenulations (small-scale folds) is visible along the upper left side (just to the left of the brown smudge).

I don’t know where this was found, but if you’re in the US or Canada, I’d posit that it came from the general area of New England to Newfoundland, an area known for its highly-deformed rocks.

While not a fossil, your specimen tells a complex geologic story, and imho is well worth keeping.  Maybe just as a decor in a planter? As a guy with a household full of rocks, I’d keep it!
