Lucid_Bot
Hello, I was hoping someone could let me know if these fossils are genuine Dimetrodon from Archer County, TX Nocona Formation. Thanks!
hadrosauridae
Something feels "off" about it. The claw is giving me a notion of being sculpted. As for location, nobody is going to be able to verify that. As always, need very clear closeups of all sides to make a better decision. edit to add- I think I know which website this is from, and if so, every Ddon claw I see there is 100% carved. I would stay far away. Can you tell me what indicates to you that this is fake? Thanks a lot. because it looks to have been carved with the grinder. Look at how rough the lines are. Look at the gouging and cuts. You can see its not a smooth, natural surface. The blood groove is horrible mess. Heck, it probably isnt even any type of fossil. Its a very bad fake. If they wont refund, file a complaint with the card company you used to purchase it. Yes, I think that is a good idea. It's quite discouraging how many fakes are out there.
Psittacosaur9
Yeah, sorry you bought this. Not only are the grinding lines very obvious, but there is absolutely no bone structure in the claws. There are various threads on the forum about Spinosaurus claws, and while it is a different genus they're still handy for basic identification of whether or not a claw is fake: https://www.thefossilforum.com/topic/81842-tips-in-purchasing-a-spinosaurid-hand-claw/ https://www.thefossilforum.com/topic/128763-buying-a-spinosaurus-claw/

I mean, I'm not the final authority on fake dinosaur claws, but that looks like a less obvious fake than the dimetrodon claw. The blood grove looks abnormal, the substance the claw is made of is too shiny - not at all like real fossil bone, but very much like resin - and there does not seem to be a proper bone structure. Still, I'd like to hear from some other forum members before I come to a definitive conclusion - it might simply be poorly preserved, although I am leaning towards it being fake. Lucid_Bot
By the way, the claw feels like plastic to me.

Will remember this for future reference though.
Tidgy's Dad
Very glad that you didn't buy the one and they're allowing you to return the other. No harm done. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

Well if it feels like plastic, then it certainly is not real. Fossil bone would feel rougher than that.
