Welcome to the Forum. :)

 

The area around Madison County looks to be mostly Paleozoic in age - mostly Mississippian and Pennsylvanian. Maybe some Ordovician aged strata exposed as well.

Hard to say with your item. Could be some sort of ichnofossil, or a very worn Conularid?

 

Maybe some others will chime in with information.

Conularid is what first came to my mind as well.
