DPS Ammonite
I found this case of silicified fossils from the Permian Glass Mountain, Texas area that was sold at a local Phoenix thrift store. It looks like a museum display that was placed next to a 1,400 lb block of fossiliferous limestone. The limestone and fossils were donated by Mary Hess Korth of the Hess Ranch is west Texas. Lots of great brachiopods with spines and other fossils. I understand that most of the area is private and not open to most collecting. Does anyone know the history of this display or where it might have been displayed? The lucite display is about 12 inches wide with a vertical piece with the fossil names and other info? The fossils are glued on several internal vertical baffles. The display probably predates 2007 since Mary died in 2007. 1 11 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Mikrogeophagus
Can't offer much help but just wanna say thats an awesome display. I learned of the glass mountains only recently. The care they must have went through to keep those spines attached must have been immense!

TqB
What a gorgeous collection and display. Best thrift store find ever. The implication on the label is that Mary Hess Korth donated the rock and the presumed museum did the acid prep. siteseer
Back in the late 80's, I saw a Glass Mountains matrix piece displayed in a glass container. It was for sale at a Nature Company store in San Jose, CA. It was incredible. Apparently, a few pieces were prepped by an individual who had developed a special prep procedure for the matrix. Delicate corals and brachiopods in place. It looked like some fantasy sculpture like a background in Narnia. A friend once saw another piece and he referred to it as a "fairyland."
