Hello , I recently found this tooth here in central Louisiana! Just curious if this is normal to find ? Or have I possibly stumped onto something greater ? Thanks

Shark teeth are very common as fossils, and this one isn’t even complete. Without more specific locality data it’s hard to give more information, there are multiple rock units in that area which could produce fossil shark teeth.

To answer your questions, your find is fairly normal and almost certainly not scientifically significant. That said, that doesn’t mean this fossil can’t have personal significance to you!

Welcome to the Forum from Maryland! Nice find!

If you search through this site for posts on Louisiana, you should get an idea of what kind of fossils are from your area. To get an idea of what your state was like millions of years ago, search "inland sea". That would help explain why you found a shark tooth in central Louisiana.

Nice FOSSIIZED shark tooth.  :)

Interesting discussion on the differences between "Petrified" and "Fossilized".
