New Members Julie Cox Posted January 26 New Members Share Posted January 26 Found this in Colorado where I live, it is brown, the top is smooth and feels polished. There are tiny cracks and holes. They are rough inside Wanted to know what it is, thought maybe a Gastrolith? It was found in a horse pasture laying on the ground. Any help would be appreciated! DPS Ammonite
Welcome to the Forum Julie. Photos are too fuzzy to see any trace fossils or other surface features. Also, these can’t be identified as gastroliths unless they are intimately associated with a fossil animal. Edited January 26 by DPS Ammonite 1 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Mark Kmiecik
Gastroliths are generally smoother and more rounded, just like tumbled rock because that's what they are. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
