I was given these many years ago by a relative so i unfortunately dont have the location they were found but there is a good chance it was in Australia.

I'm hoping someone can help me ID just what is i them.

I've put my thoughts for each here under the image names.

Fossil 1: Some sort of brachiopod?

Fossil 2.jpeg

Fossil Imprints 2: I know its leaves so im just wondering if anyone knows what species they came from?

Fossil Imprints 2.jpeg

Fossil 3: Possibly some sort of shell?

Fossil 1.jpeg

Fossil 4: Incredibly light weight and almost feels chalky. Never been sure whether the fossil in the stone is a plant like some sort of fern or fishbones?

Fossil 3.jpeg

Fossil Imprint 5: Obviously a shell. Imprint from an Ammonite or some other shelled creature?

Fossil Imprint 3.jpeg

Fossil Imprints 6: This is in a big chunk of rock that also features leaf imprints. Same type of stome as Fossil Imprints 2 and from the same location I'd assume. Is this fish skin or something else?

It would be much better to put each description or suggestion under each of the photos concerned because here we are forced to constantly scroll vertically to check your information, it is not practical at all ;)

Nice collection, could you provide more images from different angles of fossil 3.

Without locations, these will be difficult to ID to species or even genus level.

I've placed your descriptions above each item, and numbered them accordingly.

(This is the format you should follow.)

1 - Brachiopod - maybe a Rhynconellid, maybe a pentamerid?

2 - Maybe ginko leaves???

3 - Looks like a productid brachiopod to me.

4 - Fish bones

5 - Gastropod imprint.

6 - ???

  • 3 months later...

The snail is likely a Keeneia from the Sydney Basin,

The fish is murray cod..

A very fragile chalk fossil of a fresh water fish. It is aged about 20 million years and was found in the locality of a chalk mine at Bugaldie in New South Wales (near Coonabarrabran).

I hope this helps

Thankyou for this. I think you’re right with the snail as it looks like the same structure and the locations you’ve mentioned for the fish fossil makes sense as I do have some relatives in coonabarrabran/binnaway and I think that one did come from those relatives
