Is this a crinoid holdfast?

Disclaimer: Just an amateur fossil hunter. Whatever facts I think I know about fossils come from research done for coaching Div B Science Olympiad.

Found in Schoarie County, NY, The matrix is from a shale layer between the limestones from the Kalkberg or Becraft formations. Found on the ground at the foot of a small cliff, so I don't know where it fell from. I am posting dry and wet pictures.

Is this a crinoid holdfast?

Thanks

Jorge

Doesn't quite look like one, but you will want in future to use a ruler or tape measure rather than a medallion with some guy with pigtails. :D

It could be a poorly preserved lobolith, but I agree that it can't really be confidently identified as such.

I am going against the grain here, and going to say it is possibly a crinoid holdfast.

The guide I have for Schoharie that lists crinoid species and mentions Aspidocrinus scutelliformis.

I agree with Fossildude19, that it could be a floating crinoid holdfast. I have a few from Schoharie County (Lower Devonian-Kalkberg Formation-Helderberg Group) and they look similar to yours.

Thank you for the input. Just found it this weekend and have not had a chance to do a little prep. I will post again after cleaning it up.
