New Members Gemma Posted May 10 New Members Share Posted May 10 Hi there, New to the site and complete novice when it comes to fossils. I found this fossil on the beach at Hunmanby Gap near Filey in the UK. Does anyone have any idea what it is and from what period please? Thanks

Jaybot
Very nice find, especially for one of your first fossils! I agree with @oyo, it is a pycnodont fish. @Fossildude19 might be able to tell us more about it. -Jay “The earth doesn't need new continents, but new men.” ― Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

Thanks for the tag, but I am more focused on Early Mesozoic and Paleozoic fish. @Al Dente or @MarcoSr are much more knowledgeable about pycnodonts. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Ludwigia
I agree with what has already been said. Nice find! The stratigraphy of the area is Late Jurassic, Oxfordian. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
