kylecosby
This is very possibly a meteorite and was found in Central Texas in a small town named bangs. It's about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long and l, believe it or not, weighs about 5 lbs. Possible lunar meteorite

Kane
You may wish to study the geology of your area to get a better sense of what is likely to be found there. There is likely some USGS documentation available online. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

kylecosby
I am guessing a meteorite, however I'm no expert but i do love rocks and fossils and have researched this one quite a bit, too heavy to be just a rock
Kane
How have you researched it? There are specific tests for meteorites (see: http://meteorite-identification.com/streak.html). At any rate, it is not a fossil. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Mark Kmiecik
Weigh it on the produce scale at your local grocery store. The surface doesn't look the way meteorites normally do. It does not look like a fossil of any kind. Google meteorite to get an idea of the usual appearance of one. I see a couple of reddish spots on the surface, but nothing that would indicate that the interior is red or metallic. Of course, holding it in hand is never the same as looking at photos, so I may be wrong, but judging only by what I can see here, I would say no to fossil and no to meteorite. Edited May 12 by Mark Kmiecik fix typo 1 Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
v100v
Even if the fusion crust would be faded and worn out by weather over a very long time, the surface dont look smooth enough for it to be a meteorite..

JohnJ
This looks like a large hematite or limonite (or some other iron based mineral) nodule. It would also explain why it seems "too heavy". 3 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Sagebrush Steve
You could help us with the identification by running a test on the specimen. You say it is “heavy” but we need more information. One of the fundamental tests for geologic specimens is a parameter called “specific gravity.” It is how you quantify what it means to be “heavy.” Different materials have different specific gravities so if we know the value for your specimen it helps us determine what it might be. It isn’t too hard to measure specific gravity, see the link below. Once we know the value we can see whether that value is consistent with what we know about meteorites. Here is how to make the measurement, let us know what you come up with:

Idk if there are conditions that would make a previously smooth meteorite crust surface uneven and grainy again with time & weathering for example, and yeah I got lot to learn. And secondly I have noticed even experts or very experienced in this often seem to not know a lot of the time. (And I'd 100% bet on that there are meteorite varieties that exist but isn't yet confirmed, some things one can read on the sites around the web, by seemingly knowledgeable meteorite people don't even male sense to me.) I'm nerding out on it tho, I've been looking for rocks a lot today, I may have found a meteorite piece today, not sure... It's smooth, heavy, got.a crust that is damaged on the ends but at the place where it is still there from one side to the next, the corner is rounded (not sharp) Color under the crust is different from the crust and it has some good signs but I'm not 100% sure. Seems it has rocky material in it, so if it's a meteorite it must be of the rocky iron category. I don't have a magnet at hand but it seems too metallic like and heavy not to contain some metals.. . Yeah, I hope it is one..! :p I should maybe not "steal" your thread but no sweat, just lmk and I'll create my own and delete this post. I took a video too to try to get all the angles and dents or whatever but size got a little too much to post here...
