New Members gnamm13 Posted May 15 New Members Share Posted May 15 Have tried getting this identified online a couple times but didn't. It is heavy and was told is quartz, 18 lbs. Has full set of teeth and can see where backbone was connected.
Fin Lover
Welcome to the forum! Sorry, I'm not seeing anything to indicate that this is a skull. 4 Fin Lover
Ludwigia
It's a rock with a couple of holes in it. No teeth to be seen. Definitely not a skull or even a fossil. 3 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Fossildude19
I don't think it is quartz, but it may be chert. Not seeing any bone texture, or teeth. Pictures are a bit blurry, but I don't think this is any kind of skull, or fossil. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." SPrice
I agree with the others' opinions. It looks very much like a chert nodule to me. Very "soap bar" looking texture and a tap with a hammerstone on any of the angular edges would , in my opinion, produce a nice, very sharp flake displaying conchoidal fracturing. I have replicated lots of paleo projectile points and tools from flint and chert nodules from Texas, Alabama, Arkansas and other locations. This looks very similar to those nodules...minus the eyeball sockets. Nice skull looking rock but not any animal origin skull.
