Today I had a few hours in the early morning to myself, so I spent it doing what I like best, fossilhunting! I was only able to hunt for about 3 and a half hours. I went to the site with only one thing on my mind- Trilobites. I swore to myself that Trilobites were the only thing I would bring home. I have more shell fossils then I know what to do with. Of course I ended up unearthing many really nice ones. I only brought home 3 because I couldn't resist.

As for the trilos, I got stuck with some Heartbreakers. The first one was a thorax to a juvenile Dipluera which looked as if the cephalon and pygidium were under the matrix similar to the last 2 I found. That was not to be the case, it was just the thorax. Next up was the thorax and pygidium of a greenops. The cephalon looks to be under the matrix but it is in some really fragile stuff so I think it will just crumble if I mess with it.

Next I uncovered what I at first I thought was the pygidium and thorax of a larger Dipluera which was enrolled. I couldn't tell if it was complete, it was covered in dirt and debris after I got it out and cleaned up I realized that it was a disarticulated thorax. What I thought was the outline of the pygidium was only a thorax segment.  Though there was a pygidium imprint next to the segment.

Lastly as I was trying to move a very large and heavy slab, I looked down and saw what I first thought was a complete Eldredgeops. This was also covered in dirt and debris. After I picked it up and took a good look at it I realized it was an almost complete Dipluera. It had pygidium, thorax and cephalon, BUT, a small portion of the right side, and a large portion of the left side was missing!

I guess one cannot win all the time.

But I enjoyed the alone time and wish I could of stayed longer.

Till next time...........:zen:

Glad you were able to get out there Dave. Too bad about the heartbreakers! Still, not bad finds for a short time out. :thumbsu:
