New Members mazypd Posted May 31 New Members Share Posted May 31 On my first exploratory trip to the Zagros Wedge Range in the Middle East, I encountered a wide range of fossils, and this one caught my attention the most. I don't know enough to give more details. I look forward to your valuable comments and suggestions.
FranzBernhard
Welcome to TFF from Austria! This is an echinoid, a sea urchin. What formation does it come from? Franz Bernhard
oilshale
Interesting sea urchin - this preservation with spines is rare. I only know this from very few localities. Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

Franz Bernhard If you mean the place of discovery - in the southwest of Iran and the Zagros mountain range, which according to my little information was a large sea bed until about 60 million years ago.

Thank you, but not the particular place, but the geological formation: Geological formation - Wikipedia Are there any geological maps of the area out there and online available? That way, you can check out the age of your fossil. And yes, the sea urchin indicates, that the rock around it was deposited in the sea.
